| Description: |
An old photo dating from around 1940 showing Benfleet High Street facing northwards up Essex way. The Hoy and Helmet is visible on the left and the Crown (now Half Crown) on the right. There used to be a building on the corner by the Crown but this was no longer there on the 1937 OS map so the photo is after that date. The Anchor pub is visible in the distance.
There are houses on St Mary's church land between the Hoy & Anchor which are no longer there. There is also a house just after the Crown which sticks out further than current property there. |
