| Description: |
An old photo dating from between 1922 and 1937 showing Benfleet High Street facing northwards up Essex way. The war memorial is visible in the distance which was built in 1922. The Hoy and Helmet is visible on the left which appears to be a parade of shops and not just the pub. The Crown (now Half Crown) on the right however there is a building in the foreground of the Crown roughly on the bend to Ferry Rd which is no longer there. This building wasnt there in 1937, so the photo was taken between 1922 and 1937. The Anchor pub is visible in the distance. There are houses on St Mary's church land between the Hoy & Anchor which are no longer there. There is also a house just after the Crown which sticks out further than current property there. |
